  • STAR (School-based Test About Reading) assessment of WV Indonesia explains that only 4 out of 10 children in Sentani, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Biak Numfor Districts have the ability to read with comprehension. The net school attendance rates in Papua were the lowest i.e. at 67.4% for lower-secondary schools and 48.8% for upper-secondary (UNICEF, 2020). One of the reasons for low school attendance is local perspectives opposing children from having education.
