Aswin's Daily Life in Vulnerability
A little girl named Aswin lives in a village in East Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara. She is currently studying in grade 3 and is known as a diligent and enthusiastic student. Every lesson from the teacher she hears and does. However, every day, Aswin also has to struggle, even from the moment she wakes up.
Aswin no longer has a father. Her mother's health is also not good, so her eldest sibling does odd jobs to earn a living for the family. Aswin helps her parents and siblings by taking care of her own needs even though she is only nine years old.
Every day, before school, Aswin prepares her own uniform and breakfast. Due to the difficult economic conditions, Aswin's breakfast menu is very simple, only corn, sweet potatoes or white rice. Sometimes, if there is no food, Aswin goes to school without breakfast.
The journey from home to school is also long. Aswin's small steps have to go through a large, steep, up-and-down rocky road. She travelled the same route every time she went to and from school so that she could learn and grow up to be a smart girl. She hopes that when she grows up, she can help her mother and siblings live a more prosperous life.
Today, the village where Aswin lives is one of WVI's assisted villages in East Manggarai. Aswin's life is one example of many children who are in the most vulnerable conditions. Many of Aswin's rights as a child are deprived due to a life that is far from prosperity.
Aswin and other children in East Manggarai need you to restore their rights as children. Give Aswin a life of hope, joy and protection by becoming a child sponsor. Your support will mean so much to Aswin and the millions of other Indonesian children currently living in extreme poverty.
