My Talk with Sponsor

My Talk with Sponsor

My name is Sabrina and I am currently 19 years old. My daily activities are helping my mother sell and prepare for the independent university entrance exam. I am the youngest of 3 siblings. My two sisters are also girls. I live in Jakarta. I live with my mother and second sister.

My eldest sister is married, so she lives with her husband. Every day my mother sells rice and side dishes beside the house. On Mondays and Tuesdays, my mother diligently attends regular business meetings held in the Kelurahan which also cooperates with Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI). My father died when I was 2 years old. My mother said my father died of illness.

I became WVI's child representative when I was about 10-11 years old. Every year I send each other letters to my sponsor. My sponsor sent me a gift. The gifts he sent were not only for me, but my two brothers also received gifts from sponsors. My sponsor is very kind. Until now, my mother still neatly keeps the letters from my sponsor.

When I was still a sponsor's child, I was still confused about replying to letters from sponsors. When I was confused about what to write, my mother and even my sister taught me what I could write for sponsors.

Compared to my current age, I feel more confident in what I write. I feel more fluent in replying to my sponsor letters. I've even written two letters to talk to my sponsor.

After I shared my life with the sponsor, I felt relieved after sharing how I felt. The most memorable story I told my sponsor was when I failed my university entrance exam last year. I wrote down what I felt at that time. After I wrote down what I felt, I indirectly felt the burden that was on my shoulders was lifted. I became very happy to be able to exchange stories with my sponsor.
