New Home for Aditia

#LombokBangkitKembali – The rain was falling when the staff of Lombok Earthquake Emergency Response (LEER) of Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) came to one of the sub-villages in North Lombok Regency. WVI’s staff wanted to meet the beneficiary of the temporary shelter. The temporary shelter project was made by WVI collaborates with the PKPU Initiative and supported by Aktion Deutschland Hilft (ADH).

Tanwir (34) and Rapisah (25) are a couple who was visited by WVI on that day. Both of them claimed that they were really helped by the presence of temporary shelter. Tanwir said that along this time, he and his family only slept in a makeshift place that they built with makeshift equipment.

“We were staying in the place of 2x2 meters. I made the wall and the roof by using zinc, unfortunately, it becomes so hot inside. Our last toilet was covered with coconut leaves. But now we have a temporary shelter given by WVI. It is really comfortable. We can protect ourselves from rain and hot weather. Our son also very helped by the presence of this place,” said Tanwir.

Tanwir and Rapisah have a son called Aditia (4) that suffers from heart leak disease since he was 10 years old. During his life, Aditia never walks and become fatigued when he is doing a lot of activities. He could faint after walking a few steps. Especially with inadequate housing conditions making it harder for Tanwir and Rapisah to rise again.

Nurhayati, a staff of LEER WVI who also a member of the Child Protection Institution in North Lombok Regency helped Tanwir and Rapisah. She connected them with the local NGO so Aditia can finally have a treatment in Jakarta.

“I don’t know how if there was no help from the organization. We are poor and we don’t have much money to build the house also to pay the surgery cost. We thank God that Mrs. Nurhayati came and helped us,” he explained.

Rapisah, Aditia's mother, said that Aditia now can be live normally. Now He even can play with other children.

“Now we also can sleep comfortably and safely in the temporary shelter,” Rapisah added.

Until now, WVI has finished the process of temporary shelter building in the North Lombok Regency. There are 426 temporary shelter units scattered in 15 sub-villages of the North Lombok Regency.
