3,700 People Receive Samsung Program Benefits in Biak

After more than 3 years of supporting children and teachers in Biak Regency, Papua, Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) together with Samsung Indonesia announced that the Samsung Smart Learning Class (SSLC) program has officially been completed. The end of this program was marked by the “Samsung Smart Learning Class Workshop” which was also a moment of handing over the program to the Biak Numfor District Education Office as proof of the partnership's commitment to supporting the progress of education in Biak.

Since its inauguration at SD YPK Waupnor Biak in 2018, the SSLC program has proven to have encouraged Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-based learning for teachers and students, and contributed to building the understanding of the surrounding community about technology through various training.

To date, around 3,700 Biak communities consisting of children, parents, teachers, communities, and local government officials have received technology training facilitated by Samsung and WVI.

In a satisfaction survey conducted by WVI as a program evaluation, the Principal of SD YPK Waupnor Biak, Kain Wamaer, S.Pd said that SSLC had a great impact on his school. Seeing the significant development, he feels confident that his school's target to become a national standard can be achieved in the next two to three years.

“Some teachers who were initially not fluent in using technology devices are now able to take advantage of the device's features for use when teaching. Students are also very quick to adapt using gadgets to find information and learn,” said Kain.

The parents of SD YPK Waupnor Biak also expressed the same thing. Based on the survey results, most people and students admit that their children have broad insights and can use gadgets. In addition, children also understand the lessons given by the teacher faster and get to know foreign languages ​​faster because they are used to browsing on Google Chrome.

The Regent of Biak Numfor who was represented by the Assistant for Government and Welfare at the Regional Secretariat of Biak Numfor Regency, Mahasunu, S.IP in his speech appreciated the achievement of the SSLC program in increasing digital learning innovation in Biak. He also mentioned that this was in line with the government's program to improve people's digital literacy.

"In the future, the SSLC program will serve as a guide for the government in developing a digital-based learning system in the Biak Numfor district," said Mahasunu.

Meanwhile, Wahana Visi Indonesia's Education Team Leader, Marthen Sattu Sambo, strongly supports the government's efforts. However, Marthen said that several things need to be considered to encourage digital learning innovation in schools. One of them is that ICT training for teachers must be carried out consistently, systematically, and measurably so that there is no learning loss. For that, he explained that WVI is ready to assist and collaborate with the government.
