Being a Doctor in School
In order to increase awareness of sanitation in school, Wahana Visi Indonesia Area Program Bengkayang organized dissemination of Doctor in school. This event was attended by the students of the elementary school in Bengkayang. Each school also sent two teachers to monitor of school health unit (Usaha Kesehatan Sekolah/UKS).
Doctor Krista and her team is the trainer of the event. They teach participants to do handwashing with soap, how to help friends who get injured, nosebleeds, fainting, and sprains.
Not only get the knowledge of theory, but also the students were also joining in practice. They were working with first-aid medicines like a bandage, alcohol, etc.
Seli (10 yo) as one of participant feels glad to know something about health and medical thing in school. She claims that she gets new information.
“In my hometown, the people usually do the massage if sprains happened. But by joining this training, I know how to take care of sprains using cold water and ice cube to prevent swelling. Do not massage!” she explains.
She loves to involve in the training.
“I am happy to learn as a doctor. I have a dream to be a doctor too,” she continues the statement.
This dissemination is related to Gift Catalogue (GC) campaign of Wahana Visi Indonesia. By doing the campaign, thousands of students of Bengkayang can have sanitation facilitation. Toilets and sinks will be provided in fifteen elementary schools
In August 2018, the development has been carried out at four elementary schools (such as; SDN 01 Ketiat, SDN 04 Keranji, SDN 09 Melikar dan SDN 12 Sengkabang). In September 2018, the development also has been carried out at another four elementary schools (SDN 02 Sungai Betung, SDN 07 Sepoteng, SDN 16 Pakeng, dan SMPN 3 Sungai Betung).
In October 2018 seven schools (SDN 03 Kawan, SDN 05 Lamat Semalat, SDN 06 Jirak, SDN 08 Semidang, SDN 10 Melakos, SDN 06 Belangko dan SMPN 1 Sungai Betung) have accepted new facility in school. Meanwhile, five schools now can use the facility and project still runs in another two schools.
