Plataran and WVI Open Doors for Indonesian Children

As an organisation with a vision for children to live life in all its fullness, Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) works to ensure that children in WVI's assisted areas complete their education, at least up to senior secondary level. One of the efforts to make this dream a reality is through partnerships between WVI and various private sectors to open up opportunities for further education or internships after high school/vocational school.
Since 2019, WVI has partnered with Plataran Komodo to run an internship programme where youth from WVI's assisted areas are given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in hospitality at Plataran Komodo – part of the Plataran group – for a period of six months to one year.
In 2019, two young men from Asmat Regency, Papua, and in 2020, two young women from South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara participated in this internship programme. This positive collaboration continues from September 2024 to August 2025. Two young men from Manggarai and East Manggarai Regencies, East Nusa Tenggara, are experiencing the positive impact of this programme. Kevin and Ugi have just completed their one-year internship as a cook helper and in the pastry section. Both are children from WVI's assisted programmes.
Kevin and Ugi stated that the internship programme they participated in was excellent and they recommend that other youth continue to take part. They said that the Plataran Komodo internship programme was an opportunity to learn many new things, especially in the culinary arts. They also became skilled at assisting guests from various regions, including those from outside Indonesia, both at the resort and when guests took a cruise package around the islands of Labuan Bajo.
Kevin and Ugi hope to continue to deepen their culinary knowledge and dream of managing their own restaurant, either on the island of Flores or in other potential locations. Let's continue to support youth like Kevin and Ugi by opening up more opportunities for them to achieve their dreams.
