New Home for People in Sokong Village
#LombokBangkitKembali – The earthquake that happened in 2018 has destroyed a thousand houses in Lombok. The situation makes people, especially people in Sokong Village, North Lombok Regency, have to stay in evacuation posts with tents and feel uncomfortable.
According to this fact, Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) collaborates with PKPU Human Initiative and supported by Aktion Deutschland Hilft (ADH) German committed to building a temporary house in Sokong village, part of North Lombok Regency. About 426 temporary houses are still in progress to build in 15 sub-villages of Sokong Village.
The houses will be given to affected people with several criteria, such as family who has badly destroyed houses and family with vulnerable people (elderly, widow, infant, disabled people, and a pregnant woman).
“Alhamdulilah, thank you so much Wahana Visi Indonesia for giving us a nice house. I hope this house can be used in the long term,” said Rahadi as a beneficiary.
Gelumpang Geluk Subvillage is one of the areas which gets 29 temporary houses. People in this sub village now can have a proper place to sleep.
"WVI also helps people who have no money to build a house. They are who had been sleeping in berugak now can have their own bed. Thank you WVI,” Ratna, a resident of Gelumpang Geluk claimed.
The process of building temporary houses continues until December 2019. At present development is underway in the Orong Class Subvillage and Karang Sobor Sub village. In the process of building houses, WVI also gives the freedom to people to choose materials that suit their needs, such as house paint.
The purchase of the material was held through a bazaar held in the target villages for the development of the houses. Until now the bazaar has been held three times. Shopie, one of the representatives of the German ADH during her visit to Lombok also appreciated this activity.
"I only know the theory, but here I can see what the original is like. You guys are amazing being able to hold a bazaar with a few members and the Bazar is also good, smooth," Shopie appreciated the work WVI’ staff.
