Four-Stars Menu for Star Generation
Priscilia is happily carrying her ten-months old child, Zaim to the posyandu (integrated health post) in her village located in Palu, Central Sulawesi. As she expects before, some good changes happened to her first child.
“Thank God, my son's upper arm circumference increased from 14 to 14.5,” she said happily.
The previous month Zaim was malnourished and the size of his arm was below the standard for children of his age. As a mother, Priscilia tried to recover the condition of her child. After attending a training held by Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) on Infant and Young Child Feeding (PMBA), Priscilia changed her way of feeding her children.
“Previously, I thought that carrots and rice provided a lot of nutrition for my child. After attending the training, I learned that the four-star menu must meet the nutrition of my child's diet such as protein, minerals, vitamins, and carbohydrates, ”said Priscilia, who currently always ensures that the composition of the menu met her child's diet.
Priscilia can also add to the menu consumed by her child after receiving the Supplementary Feeding Program, which is distributed using the conditional cash transfer method through BaNTu Gizi by transferring the cash to a bank account if the parents of toddlers have attended training classes such as a four-star menu, how to process food and cleanliness while providing food for children.
“Through this program, children can get nutrition, parents get knowledge. My children and I, representing the recipients of the BaNTu Gizi program, are grateful for the knowledge and nutrition. Hopefully, this program will also bring benefits to many people,” she concluded.
As of August 2020, 22,850 people including 4,408 adult men, 7,506 adult women, 5,372 boys, and 5,564 girls, have benefited from the health and nutrition sector including independent training for parents. All these nutrition programs can be implemented through the active role of posyandu cadres, health workers, and parents.
